Sayings of Alissa - age 4
By Patrick Carr of PWCarr Music
Alissa loves her new swing that she got for her birthday. “Swing me higher, higher, higher, Higher, HIGHER! You wouldn’t want to swing way up there, though (pointing), ‘cause your swing would tip over, and you’d get hurt; and then your blood would come out of you, and you’d just be dead in the grass and you’d never see your mom and dad again.” Alissa had some toy animals and characters riding around in her electric train: “I’ll be their animated sister.” Alissa, asking about the strawberries she was eating: “Are they natural? Mom: “Yes, they’re natural.” Alissa: “They’re not fake. You wouldn’t want to eat a fake one.” “You know what the worst, baddest thing is? It’s lava; ‘cause it’ll burn your toes.” “When I grow up, I’m going to get an airplane. I’ll take you and Mom and my husband to Hawaii.” “It's really foggy out this morning. Foggy, foggy, foggy. This is a disaster!” “Jason, your cat is a little catastrophe.” Alissa, building a castle out of blocks: “I’m full of big ideas.” Alissa likes to dress up, wear jewelry, invent costumes. Mom: “Hey, Fairy Princess.” Alissa: “I’m not a fairy!” Mom: “What are you, then?” Alissa: “I’m a human being.” She is also definitely the Style Girl. She colored a piece of paper, then rolled and taped it to make a hat. On top she placed a sheer, lacy pink robe that hung down the back like the veil of a princess’ hat. She wore this to pre-school. Making that hat was one of her “projects.” She likes to do “projects” and “experiments.” Smashing ants. I asked her “Why are you killing those poor little ants?” Alissa: “I’m doing a ant experiment.” Alissa, tearing the petals off dandelions and putting them in a cup of water: “Dandelions are my favorite for doing experiments on.” Alissa glued pieces of colored paper together with glitter and candy Valentine hearts. Me: “You really did a good job on that project.” Alissa: “Yeah, and you did a bad job driving. You got caught by the police.” “I saw a human that had a car just like yours.” Alissa got the chicken pox. “This is the worst day of my life!” Crying and holding her ear: “I hit my chicken pock.” Alissa has a book of Bible stories called What Would Jesus Do? She got in trouble for not minding, and I asked her “What do you think Jesus would do if his mom or dad asked him to do something?” She said, “What would you do if I had fifteen hundred ‘chicken pocks’ on me?” Alissa went fishing with Dad. She likes to “fish” with cattails at the edge of the water. “I am the queen of all cattails.” “People have colors all over their skin that you can’t see. Trees and plants have ‘em, too.” (Whispering in my ear): “Raeann has ‘em, and she doesn’t even know it.” I asked what colors I have; she said, “All the colors.”

Very nice Pat. Have you turned some of Alissa'a sayings into song lyrics?
How strange it is that we lose the ability to think and speak as a child without a child to remind us. My son, St.John worked out that there was no such thing as a grown up because everybody was somebody's child.
Do you remember Art Linkletter, the genial host who parlayed his talent for the ad-libbed interview into two of television’s longest-running shows, “People Are Funny” and “House Party,” in the 1950s and 1960s? He was particularly adept at putting small children at ease, which he did regularly on a segment of “House Party,” a reliably amusing question-and-answer session that provided the material for his best-selling book “Kids Say the Darndest Things!” I loved his easy, enthusiastic way with children. Alissa should have been on his show. Mr. Linkletter would have had fun with her!
I came back to read these again. You are blessed with a sweet little girl!
